Sacha Lin, violin

Harvard-Westlake School Sacha-Lin-Circle

How did you choose your instrument?

It was actually my mother who thought it might be a good idea for me to take up the violin when I was six years old. That was three years into my piano studies, so I already knew how to read notes and such. To be honest, I viewed violin as a chore for my first few years. Of course, I feel differently now.

What piece are you most excited to play this upcoming season?

I am excited to play Mahler 5 in particular this upcoming season because I remember very clearly how much I loved playing Mahler 1 two years ago at my first AYS concert. Mahler 1 has been my favorite symphony ever since, so I look forward to revisiting the composer’s work.

What have you learned from AYS so far and what are you hoping to gain from AYS in the future?

Being part of a section that plays mostly middle voices and harmonies, the most valuable lesson I have learned is how important and how wonderful it is to listen to all the other sections in the orchestra. I am just so grateful to have the opportunity to continue on as a member in the orchestra and play alongside great musicians.
