How did you choose your instrument?
When I was in 4th grade, my dad (a clarinetist and music teacher), wanted to teach me how to play the clarinet. After one clarinet lesson, I saw a concert that featured an oboist, and I loved it. I never touched a clarinet again!
What piece are you most excited to play this upcoming season?
I’m very excited to play Copland’s Quiet City for Trumpet, English Horn and string orchestra. It’s an important piece in the standard English Horn repertoire, and it’s absolutely beautiful! And as a young Angelino, I also appreciate it as a metaphor for city life.
What have you learned from AYS so far and what are you hoping to gain from AYS in the future?
AYS has provided me with so many meaningful orchestral experiences. I always look forward to building new musical relationships and learning from the other young musicians. I also look forward to continuing to build my orchestral repertoire, as all of the music we play in AYS, both standard and new, prepares us for our musical careers.
