How did you choose your instrument?
How did I choose my instrument: My parents wanted me to take music lessons and a friend recommended a great piano teacher. I was with her for 12 years until college.
What piece are you most excited to play this season?
Appalachian Spring! It’s one of my all-time favorite pieces of music. I have performed the chamber version several times but this will be my first time playing the full orchestra version.
What have you learned from AYS so far and what are you hoping to gain from AYS in the future?
In working on the Elfman concerts, I feel like I have really gotten a taste for how the current music industry works. We don’t always have the luxury of getting the music before a rehearsal or having heard something countless times before. I have learned how to be flexible and alert, and how to work quickly yet still at a high level. Looking forward, I’m excited to work on some pieces with AYS that I have not performed yet, including the Saint-Saëns Organ Symphony and Shostakovich 6.
