I loved the viola in middle school because of the C string! But was forced to play violin because there were too many violas already. Finally, when studying in Vienna in 2007, the department needed violists, so I volunteered and have focused on viola ever since!
Saint-Saens Organ Symphony!!! I played it at St. Olaf College during my undergrad with one of our amazing faculty organists, John Ferguson. The chapel had just finished installing a brand new impressive organ with a huge and beautiful sound, with its debut performance being the Saint-Saens Organ Symphony.
AYS, even as a youth symphony, has been the most rewarding orchestral experience I’ve had since moving to Southern California. It’s such a privilege to play with this group, and you can see it in the eyes of every player, something that many professional musicians in the industry take for granted with their positions in professional orchestras. My time with AYS will be something I hold near and dear to my heart and is not a stepping stone to the future, but instead a truly unparalleled experience that I will miss once I leave.
