Claremont High School
How did you choose your instrument?
I have been around classical instruments since I was born. My brother and my cousins all began playing an instrument at a young age, but no one in my family had ever taken up violin. So when I was three years old, my mom signed both of us up for private lessons at the small music school in Claremont. We learned side by side for a few years beginning with book one of Suzuki, and even at such a young age, I loved playing. Though I was sad when my mom stopped her own studies, I could not imagine quitting, so I kept taking lessons on my own.
What piece are you most excited to play this upcoming season?
I am definitely most excited to play the movie selections at the Elfman Project III in November. I had an incredible time last year when we played the scores from Alice in Wonderland, Spiderman, and a few others, so I am really looking forward to this year’s concert as well.
What have you learned from AYS so far and what are you hoping to gain from AYS in the future?
AYS has already taught me so much in the one year I have played with the orchestra. It has opened my eyes to how beautiful music can be when so many fantastic, talented musicians come together to make it, and I have also learned how much hard work and dedication is required to create great concerts. In the future, I hope that AYS will inspire me to continue my music studies after high school.
