When I was in 6th grade in middle school band, we had a day where all of us students could try out different instruments to see what we wanted to play. As we passed around the different brass instruments, I remember liking the odd shape and size of the french horn. Honestly, many of the other students were choosing to play trumpet or trombone. It was more of a popular choice and frankly they needed french horn players. So I decided to play horn. At first it was hard to learn but as years went on and I learned how to play the instrument my eyes were opened to how incredible the french horn truly is. I fell in love with the instrument.
What piece are you most excited to play this coming season?
I am incredibly excited to play Mahler’s 5th symphony with AYS. Gustav Mahler has written such incredibly powerful music that moves everyone that hears it and performs it. Excited for all the concerts as well.
What have you learned from AYS so far and what are you hoping to gain from AYS in the future?
Being in AYS so far, I have become a better musician, gained inspiration from all the fantastic musicians around me, as well made connections along the way. I look forward to having an amazing season with AYS.
