Internships Summer 2019!
This summer, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission is generously funding three 10-week paid internships through their Summer Arts Internship Program. The program is open to all currently-enrolled undergraduates in LA County (full eligibility details here).
PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERN:
The PR intern with the American Youth Symphony will be a valued member of a small and passionate administrative team that supports our 100 orchestral musicians. You will be writing original copy for the 2019/20 press materials, website, creating and editing the Annual Report, as well as creating and managing the season’s PR and marketing calendar. Your work will be seen by thousands of donors, potential audience members, and music and media contacts. This position is ideal for a classical music buff who is looking to gain experience and contacts in arts administration and have a rewarding and valuable summer.
The PR Intern must have very strong written and verbal communication skills, and must be prepared to represent AYS to the public in a professional manner. Ideally, they have an interest in symphonic music and the promotion of orchestral music in Los Angeles. They must be Mac proficient and experienced with the Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with any of the following would be beneficial: Adobe Creative Suite,Photoshop, Audition, Premiere and/or InDesign.

The Development Intern with the American Youth Symphony will have the opportunity to focus on fundraising strategies for the 2019/20 season by working with our administrative support staff that supports our 100 orchestra musicians. The Intern will help to strategize and implement a membership campaign for the 2019/20 season. In addition, they will be responsible for tracking and planning the cultivation of donors through tracking our 53-year alumni as well as managing the Executive Director’s Major Gifts portfolio. This position is ideal for a classical music enthusiast who is looking to gain experience in communication and fundraising.
The Development Intern must be someone with a passion for supporting orchestral music in Los Angeles. The Intern should be friendly and outgoing, and demonstrate initiative, flexibility, and resourcefulness in working effectively on multiple tasks. They should also have excellent verbal communication as well as possess creativity, strong writing and grammatical proofreading skills, and a collaborative approach and commitment to teamwork. Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite is required, experience with fundraising databases such as Salesforce or Tessitura are preferred but not mandatory.

MUSIC LIBRARY INTERN
The Music Library Intern with the American Youth Symphony will have the opportunity to focus thoroughly on the music for the 2019/20 season by working with our administrative support staff on two major projects: writing program notes for up to 25 musical works to be featured in the AYS program books and organizing the AYS music library (sorting, scanning, cataloguing, etc.). Your original program notes will be based on your research and analysis of orchestral works and will provide insightful background on the music, while simultaneously making this history and analysis accessible to novice listeners. This position is ideal for a music history enthusiast who is seeking valuable experience in orchestra management and will serve as an entry into the world of classical music administration.
The Music Library Intern must be a skilled and confident writer and researcher with a strong music background (music major preferred), a desire to serve the community, and the ability to take direction and work independently. Must be experienced with the Microsoft Office Suite.
