• If you are not able to audition with your instrument group, you are welcome to schedule a make up audition.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION

To participate in an AYS concert season you must be at least 15 and not older than 27 as of September 30, 2011. Most AYS members are college or graduate students majoring in performance, or exceptionally talented high school students who already have substantial musical training.

• Auditions for membership are held each year in the fall.
• Makeup auditions for the sub list can be arranged at any time during the season.
• For questions or to schedule a makeup audition, email Orchestra Manager Isabel Thiroux at isabel.thiroux@aysymphony.org.

AYS REHEARSAL SCHEDULE
Rehearsals are held most Saturday mornings during the concert season from 9:00 am to 12:15 pm at UCLA’s Schoenberg Hall. There is normally an additional Friday evening rehearsal and a Sunday dress rehearsal on concert weekends, for a total of 6 rehearsals per concert. Members are expected to attend all rehearsals. Please consult the concert calendar before you consider applying to ensure that you will be able to participate in all performances.

ABOUT AYS
As a member of the American Youth Symphony, you will be a part of our full concert season at UCLA’s historic Royce Hall, and our concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall on March 4, 2012 – an unparalleled training opportunity. All members are paid a per-concert stipend and there are no fees required to participate. You will perform challenging repertoire under the direction of Maestro Alexander Treger.

AYS encourages applications from musicians of all cultural backgrounds.
