We are getting ready for Opening Night on October 23 at 6pm
Music Director Alexander Treger will set the tone and open the season with Bernstein’s irresistible Overture to Candide. The concert will feature Rod Gilfry, one of the most revered talents of today, in favorite songs from musicals by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Bernstein, Sondheim, Loesser and more. Rod starred in the French premiere of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd with Caroline O’Connor at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris in April. He was Frank Butler in Irving Berlin’s Annie Got your Gun at the Glimmerglass Festival this summer, and will sing with the National Symphony Orchestra in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Some Enchanted Evening in October. He won the Garland Award for his portrayal of Emile de Becque in South Pacific last year. After intermission, the orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky’s Fifth – a colorful, optimistic and high spirited Russian symphony.
Alexander Treger, the Gala Committee, the musicians and the staff of AYS, look forward to welcoming you to its one-of-a-kind post-concert Dinner Party. Enjoy fine foods, wines from personal collections and wonderful entertainment by the musicians of AYS. This is a fun opportunity to meet the players, old and new, visit with your friends and share the passion that connects us.
Proceeds from the dinner will benefit this year’s educational activities and free concerts.
