Christopher Rountree, Artistic Advisor for New Music

The American Youth Symphony is pleased to announce a new addition to our team: Christopher Rountree, Artistic Advisor for New Music.

Over the last decade, Chris has conducted both classical and modern pieces and worked with a wide variety of cutting-edge contemporary composers. He is probably best known to local audiences as the Artistic Director and Conductor of the experimental classical/contemporary ensemble wild Up: Modern Music Collective.

The mission of “wild Up”, to create dynamic, visceral performances in a broad range of musical styles, lines up with the goal of AYS to be innovative in making music accessible to all and engaging for both students and audiences.

Chris will host the pre-concert talks and help Music Director Alexander Treger select new works to include in the training activities in future seasons.
